Oh, at the least go to Twitter and tag the company about this incident. It is very satisfying to tweet your dissatisfaction with any brand. :P even if it falls on deaf ears, at least it will be out there for the rest of time. (the internet never deletes history)
I know I am talking to a Finance Expert here and I do understand the weight of the words "hard-earned money". Still, if you zoom out a bit, if it is a purchase that you could afford and don't want to ruin your day, you just decide to keep it instead of agonizing over it. And I know that is dependent on the financial leeway one has. Your dad is on the other extreme because he pardoned the negligence of the restaurant staff, which could have dangerous repercussions, no matter how much it ruins his day. For me, I'd just place the price of the product in the map of my affordability - in terms of finances as well time/effort. If I cannot afford time/effort to be wasted on negotiating, I just keep the product as long it doesn't hurt my monthly finances too much.
BTW do you still keep put chutney updated. Huge fan
Lot of same blood feelings..
